Decommissioning Policy and Market Valuation
In the UK there are no fixed quality standards for nuclear clean-up. Instead the Government's policy is that decommissioned nuclear sites should be cleaned-up to a standard that is suitable for their intended future use. But real-world judgements also need to be made of market sentiment where science sometimes has to take second place to consumer confidence, if the full market values of former nuclear properties are to be realised. This submission to the British Government's Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) examines the business case for tighter clean-up standards to allow unrestricted future use of decommissioned nuclear installations and former nuclear sites.
