Implementing IAEA Clean-Up Standards
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) publishes nuclear clean-up guidance standards for exclusion, exemption and clearance of radioactive material. The guidance standards are voluntary and not legally binding on the UK and EU. This submission to the British Government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) examines the advantages of adopting the IAEA guidance for use in the UK as an international clean-up standard and the changes to existing British regulation that may be necessary before they could be implemented successfully within the UK nuclear decommissioning market.
